About Dorcas

Dorcas began her journey as a healthcare professional since her senior year of high school. She worked as a nursing assistant/technician at an Assisted Living Facility/Nursing Home and an Inpatient Hospice facility while completed her nursing degree. In December 2017, she graduated from Midlands Technical College with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. While working full-time at a local hospital, she took courses at the University of South Carolina Upstate where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in August 2019.

Dorcas has been part of various committees at work (patient experience committee, unit based council, …). She has done many record review and chart auditing in the hospital setting. She is often a super user for many devices and procedures. She precepts newly hired nurses. She's a team player with strong communication skills. As a legal nurse consultant, she has experience reviewing general hospital cases, surgical cases, mass tort cases, cancer cases, ...

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family. Her hobbies include reading, figure skating, traveling, and learning new languages and cultures. She is fluent in French and English.

CRITICAL CARE NURSING

In this role, she cares for various types of patients to include fresh cardiac arrests, severe heart failure requiring assisting devices (LVAD, Impella, Balloon Pump, ...), Myocardial Infarction (STEMI & NSTEMI), Acute and Chronic Respiratory conditions (COPD, ARDS, Asthma, Pulmonary Hypertension), Stroke, Seizures, and post-vascular procedure patients. 

MEDICAL-SURGICAL NURSING

In this role, Dorcas cared for a mixed patient population from those who were affected with respiratory conditions such as Covid, the flu, Pneumonia, the elder who came in with a hip fracture after a fall, the sickle cell patient in crisis, to the post urology procedure patients. 

Holding a leadership role she oversaw the flow of the shift, collaborated with social workers and physician to coordinate hospital care and plan for safe discharge, and assisted the manager in some of the administrative duties.

POST-ACUTE REHAB NURSING

As Post Acute Rehab nurse she took care of patients recovering from a stroke, spinal surgery, cardiac surgery (including recent LVAD insertion), knee surgery, and other neurological or musculoskeletal disorders that may affect a patient's mobility and or speech. She provided nursing care those patient while they underwent rigorous therapy in other to regain the maximum level of functionality possible.
